We Have a Diagnosis

Yep, definitely reflux.  And she’s got a food intolerance, but it’s not milk and soy, which is where the doctor suggested we start.  It’s nuts.  You know how we figured it out?  I eliminated all milk and soy from my diet, and added in nuts to help with the protein deficit.  Definitely not the way to go.   Nuts make baby very angry.

Now that I’ve added dairy back, removed the nuts, and had Madeleine on Zantac for a couple days, she’s a different baby.  My girlfriend Bev told me lots of babies are dismissed with “colic” that actually have reflux and/or food intolerances.  Dr. Sears has a lot of advice on the subject in his The Baby Book, which I have found to be most helpful.  Bev’s son didn’t get diagnosed until he was four months old, and she said he was a different baby almost overnight, going from an angry baby to one that actually smiles.  I feel fortunate we caught this so early!  Bev also recommended checking in at Ask Dr. Sears, where he updates info on helping fussy babies, and has some helpful links for dealing with reflux.  Who knew all this was out there?  And how lucky am I to have a girlfriend who’s already been through this, and can point me in the right direction?  I really do have a village helping me raise this child.
