Time To Get Back On My Eco-Mom Soap Box

It’s April, which in our house means
only one thing – Earth Day! (Sorry, babe – your
birthday comes a very close second.)

I am trying to refrain from going all preachy on you about ways to
reduce, reuse, and recycle. You hear it from me all the time. But
as April began I got out my copy of href="http://astore.amazon.com/healthychildhealthyworld-20/detail/0452290198"
target="_blank">Healthy Child, Healthy World
to
re-read and I just have to push it one more time.

Listen, this is one of the best books a
mom can have on hand. The nonprofit organization was started by a
mom whose daughter died at age 4 of a non-genetic cancer that was
later linked to the lawn fertilizer the MOM absorbed in her feet
while pregnant. Wanting to make the world safer for other kids, she
began doing her homework and this href="http://www.healthychild.org" target="_blank">awesome
site
was born.

Seriously, check it out. They’ve got helpful tips on easy
ways to start cutting out food dyes, or how to make your own liquid
soap to avoid the Triclosan-laden anti-bacterial stuff sold
everywhere. (As a side note, you really don’t need the
anti-bacterial stuff. I promise. Read about it at the website.)

But I’m talking about the book here, and it’s
definitely one to buy. It’s got recipes for making household
cleaners, tips for greening your pantry, ideas for planning a
healthier layette for your baby. Contacts, reference websites,
everything you need to know to create a safer environment for
yourself and your kids.

You don’t have to be as granola as I am to find the book
useful. It’s incredibly easy to read, and I promise,
it’ll get lots of use in your house. You’ll thank me
for it.
