One-On-One Day

Since Sunday was the grand finale to our
two-week family “staycation”, in which Brian and Maddie
were both home the whole time, we agreed to give the girls some
quality one-on-one time with our respective number one fans. In
other words, Maddie had a huge stretch of time with Mommy while
Cora got Daddy all to herself.

We laid out the plan for the girls and threw wide the gates:
we’d go anywhere in the city, do anything they wanted. I
honestly thought Maddie would come up with a list similar to this:
lunch out; shoe shopping; go get her first manicure; that sort of
thing. I was wrong.

At breakfast the girls chatted excitedly
about their options. Our basic idea was to go to church in separate
cars, head to lunch together, look at a furniture store (sorry
girls), then go our separate ways. Maddie got out a crayon and a
piece of paper to make her list of things to do, and Cora quickly
did the same. Several minutes later, Maddie’s list read as
follows:

Go ice skating

Snuggle and watch a video

Read a Bible story together

Put on a show together

Do a puzzle together

Write up some new leaves for our Grateful Tree together

Cora’s list “read” like this:

Read books while Daddy holds her

Go to Nana’s house and play with Nana while Daddy helps Papa
with his computer (thanks kid for understanding)

Put on a show for Daddy while he watches her

Play in the park with Daddy and have him chase her

Snuggle and watch a video

Play Mommy and Baby, and have Daddy be the baby

Ride her new bike with Daddy watching her and cheering her on

Tell Daddy she loves him very much

Are these the sweetest lists you ever saw?? Seriously. I thought
our girls would be all over getting ice cream, shopping, spending
money, and all they wanted to do was spend time with us.
Interacting with us. Blossoming under our undivided attention.

We did exactly what the lists said, and both girls declared it a
fantastic day.

We may have to do that again.
