Out-Of-Town Tryouts
Maddie and I were talking over her day
yesterday – what she did, what she studied, and so forth
– when she said, “Oh, Mommy, good news! Elise and I
have already picked out what we’re going to do for the school
talent show this year.”
Which is, I should tell you, in May.
“Oh, that is good news! But why are you working on it so
early?” I (reasonably, I thought) asked.
“Because, we’re pretty sure
that at the rate we’re digging, we’re going to get that
hole dug to China waaaaaaaay before school’s out in June, and
we figured if we’ve got our routine worked out, we can go to
China, do the routine there as a practice in front of an audience,
and they’ll think it’s so great they’ll give us a
lot of Chinese money, and then we’ll come back and do the
routine here and everyone will think it’s awesome, and then
we’ll show everyone our Chinese money and they’ll think
it’s even more awesome! Isn’t that a great plan?”
she concluded, eyes shining.
Hm. On the one hand, want to encourage such examples of planning
ahead and thinking outside the box. On the other hand . . .
Oh, heck. If they get that hole dug, I’ll have to go with
them just to see what they see.
