Heart-Full
Cora has impeccable timing: last night
I’d juuuuuuuuuust sat down on the couch and pressed
“play” on my DVR’d Newsroom when Cora began
calling out: “Mooooommy! Moooooooommy!”
I walked into the darkened room and said, “What’s up,
bug?”
Cora shuffled around a bit in her bed. “I was just wondering
if you might need to get some snuggle right now. Because, you know,
if you need some snugs you can, you know, just take some whenever
you want.”
And she patted the bed next to her.
I smiled into the dark as I climbed into
her bed. “How did you know I was thinking about needing a
snuggle right now?”
Cora wriggled happily. “Well, I know you say you always need
a good snuggle, and I’m a really good snuggler.”
“That’s true,” I mused as I tucked her into a
spoon with me. “Why do you think that is? Why do think
you’re such an excellent snuggler?”
“For one thing, I’m just really little,” Cora
said matter-of-factly as she carved herself into me. “But I
also really pour my heart out into those snuggles. In fact,”
she continued, rolling towards me so I saw her eyes gleaming in the
dark, “I pour my heart into snuggles, and into all the cards
I make to give people. My heart just gets fuller and fuller and
fuller and so I pour it out into snugs and cards, and then it fills
right back up again and I can pour it out some more!”
And she sighed happily and wrapped her still-babyish arms around my
neck.
I know I, for one, had a full heart from that night.
