Memoirs Of A Goldfish
Our family reads a lot, and we’re
always bringing home a bag full of books from the library. You want
to watch the girls go crazy? Give them a gift card to Half-Price
Books and stand back as they agonize over which book to pick. I
guess I’m saying we go through a lot of books.
I have a long list of go-to favorites that I’d gladly give
out as birthday or Christmas presents, and we just recently added a
new one to the list – href="http://www.amazon.com/Memoirs-Goldfish-Devin-Scillian/dp/1585365076/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275530719&sr=8-1"
target="_blank">Memoirs of a Goldfish.
The illustrations are vivid and beautiful,
and the story’s simple but very cleverly done. It’s a
fourteen-day journal of- you guessed it – a goldfish, told in
a very dry (hence my love of it) but funny tone. The goldfish
starts out content, then bored, then bewildered as chotchke after
knick-knack is added to his bowl. When he reaches his breaking
point, he’s miraculously delivered to a private bowl once
again, where he realizes he misses the family that’s been
created.
What happens next? Well, that would be giving it away.
We spotted the book at Maddie’s preschool and picked it upon
a whim, and it’s been in constant demand ever since. So if
you’re looking for a good summer read for your youngster,
this is it.
Plus, it’s just so darn adorable to hear Cora say
“Memoirs of a Goldfish, please!”
