Mommy Amnesia
I have a distinct memory of standing over my screaming daughter lying on her changing table at, say, 5 weeks old, and vowing to myself that I'd NEVER forget how hard it was. I couldnt imagine a time when Id look back with a dreamy smile on my face and say, Her first three months? She was pretty great very calm and easy, really.
So imagine my shock when I read Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner, a novel about three women and their lives from prenatal yoga class through the first six months or so of motherhood. This author brought me back so vividly to Madeleines first few weeks, and it was only a couple of months ago! I cant believe how the edge has worn off already. The books really beautiful, and I highly recommend it with one caveat: theres tragedy in the story, so stay away from it if youre post-partum. Beyond that, youll feel as if youre talking to a girlfriend whos been there. A great novel about friendship and motherhood and trying to do it all.
