Pinkeye Fallout (It's Not What You Think)
Maddie stayed home one more day yesterday;
though her eye looked significantly better in the morning, it was a
bit runny and I don’t want to be the mom who passes it on to
the rest of first grade. So Maddie had one more day of following me
around on errands, with a bit of fun thrown in.
I toned down yesterday’s fun day, and sure enough by
mid-afternoon Maddie was saying how much she missed her school
friends and was ready to go back. We still did some fun things,
though, and I still had a great time with my eldest to myself.
One of the things Maddie worked on was her
Christmas present for Cora; since the treasure chest was painted on
Wednesday, Maddie had yesterday to encrust it with
“jewels” and cover it with glitter glue. Maddie worked
hard, and the chest is appropriately bling-y. We hid the chest, of
course, but made one crucial mistake – we forgot to put all
the glitter glue away.
Which is why Cora came home from school, took one look at our table
covered with butcher paper and glitter glue, and promptly burst
into tears. As she ran up the stairs to her room, she cried,
“It looks like Maddie did all kinds of fun things today and I
MISSED IT! It’s not fair!” before slamming her door and
sobbing for twenty minutes.
Looks like someone needs a little Cora and Mommy time. Good thing
Maddie’s back in school today.
