Clinging Vines
We had our first full day of Mommy being
back yesterday, and both girls did well – but also stayed
quite close to me all day long. Maddie, of course, had school, but
even then I came in to volunteer for half an hour and got plenty of
snuggles in that time. On a side note, what in the world am I going
to do when my daughter no longer wants to snuggle with me in front
of her friends?
Cora stayed home from school yesterday
– picked back up a low-grade fever. She was willing to run
back-to-the-grind errands with me but kept asking me to pick her
up, or sneaking up on me and snuggling my leg, the whole time we
were out. She was almost sitting in my lap during lunch, and indeed
WAS sitting in my lap at dinner. Throughout the day, Cora would
say, “I sure missed you Mommy,” or, “I love you
Mommy,” or – this one as I left for one hour to teach a
lesson – “Bye, Mommy, I’ll see you later. Later,
as in, not too long from now, not later, as in, a long trip where
you go out of town, right?” Cora begged for multiple couch
breaks all day long, and was loathe to let me go at bedtime.
Maddie fared pretty well after school, but had a meltdown –
the first in a long time – when it was time to get ready for
bed. She was over it pretty quickly, but pressed herself into me
for books time and didn’t want to let me go. I can see how
well the girls did while I was gone, and how happy they are to get
Mommy snuggles again.
I know exactly how they feel.
