Picking A Potty
Maddie’s been curious for a couple
months about the whole potty thing. She wants to watch Mommy go
potty, and if not able to watch, enjoys narrating the scene from
the other side of the door: “Mommy going potty. Mommy wiping
bottom. Mommy washing hands.”
She’s so interested that she now narrates it when anyone at
all goes into the bathroom and shuts the door, much to the chagrin
of our more private guests.
But just a couple days ago, Maddie took
another significant step towards potty training. Out of nowhere,
she grabbed her crotch, turned to my mother, and said, “Gamma
change diaper.”
“Do you want me to change your diaper?” my mother
asked.
“Yep.”
Sure enough, she’d just gone potty. Was it a fluke, though?
The next day that question was definitively answered when Maddie
walked into the kitchen and said, “Mommy change poopy diaper
please.”
“Did you go poopy?” “Yep.” “Do you
want me to change your diaper?” “Yes please.”
Once again, she wasn’t lying.
So I’m looking for a potty to bring into the bathroom to
start the potty training – just a place for Maddie to sit
while I go potty and start getting the mechanics of it. I’m
completely at a loss as to what to look for in a mini-potty, except
one that self-cleans, which I don’t think exists. So if
you’ve had great success with a particular brand or style,
please speak up – I’m potty clueless and need to get
shopping.
